Sigh, hugging her when…I remember the feel of her warmth against me. I remember the smell of her hair. I remember her head under my chin as she lay against my chest. I remember the feel of her breathing as we held one another against each other. I remember her small hands pressing my back. I remember all this and more. I have those rich memories. For those who have one another to hold, cherish each time you do it. For those like myself who have lost our partner we were all fortunate to have had those hugs.
An ancient Greek theory – told by Aristophanes, I believe, in Plato’s “Symposium” – holds that every loving couple was once a single person, split apart by one god or another, forever seeking and sometimes finding their other half. Some of the originals had male and female halves.
