Neighbors of my mother have a shelf with several same-sized boxes of seasonal decoration rotating once through the year. They shove the repacked box of the ended season in one side and take the last box off the shelfs other side. Whenever they find something more decorative than the existing stuff in that box they toss the uglier or broken parts until the box has enough space to acomodate the new things to avoid cluttering. Very practical people.
In my house we care a different face into the pumpkin every year. There are hundreds of patterns online. People stop by every year just to see what we carved this year. This year it was the plague doctor. We always carve just the face into it.
I wonder how they keep the pumpkin from falling apart. The grandkids carved theirs last week and it all falling apart now. Also how do they get them all to look the same? Stencil?
I used to buy a book of designs for my daughter at Walmart. You take out a page, and tape it to the pumpkin for a template. My favorite was a black cat. Looked really good lit up with a candle.

Get a picture before you toss it. Don’t forget to date the picture.

As Duvall said in Phenomenon, find out what a woman’s chairs are and buy them.

And year after year it can be said “Oh, that’s a familiar face!”

When I carved pumpkins I always cut stars out for the eyes. Easier to make straight cuts than curved!

The same pumkin every year? Very economical.

Like the Roman tradition of keeping wax death masks of one’s ancestors.

Speaking of pumpkins, our two local Kroger stores now have them on sale for fifty cents a piece.
In a way, it seems kind of sad. Not sure why, other than the fact that I have always identified with Charlie Brown.

Does she tell each one to ‘Smile!’ before taking its picture? Because I can totally picture her doing that!

Why would she bother doing this with the same face every year? Boring!

And here I thought my hubby and I were “weird” for photographing our pumpkins every year. For the last 27 years.
