Ed Heinemann designed the A-4 Skyhawk. When people asked him how he made the aircraft so fast and light, he simply stated, “Simplicate and add Lightness”. It was a great dogfighter and the first in the inventory that could carry its own weight in ordinance. Many will remember the aircraft from the movie “Top Gun”. It was used as the chase plane at Miramar in the movie. https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=EFR4MbNm&id=9572570BD08FD11403036E099A1B722121BE6AAC&thid=OIP.EFR4MbNmqy2mPXh4Qc7vdAHaFp&mediaurl=https%3a%2f%2fupload.wikimedia.org%2fwikipedia%2fcommons%2fc%2fcd%2fA-4E_Skyhawk_Lady_Jessie_VA-164_in_flight_1966.jpeg&exph=1401&expw=1839&q=a4+skyhawks&simid=607994478932263214&selectedIndex=22&ajaxhist=0
We use to have this preacher that would throw out big long words from the pulpit every Sunday. You needed to take a dictionary with you to church to figure out what he was saying.
I’m reminded of the episode of M*A*S*H where Hawkeye pretends to be Winchester, on the phone with another officer who had physically attacked Winchester:
Hawkeye (imitating Winchester): Your attack on me was both lugubrious and sedacious.
BJ (in disbelief): ‘Sedacious?’
Hawkeye (covering the phone): I made it up. What does he know?

My MIL had her own words for things, such as “blobbly” when her legs felt weak when she was walking.

My brother used to like to use big or obscure words to show off. I told him it just proved that he was a poor communicator.
