I’ve not had this happen to me directly (nor anyone else I know) but I’ve heard it come up sometimes: What would you do if you knew your BFF’s partner was cheating on them? Would you tell them? or just let it alone? I’d probably tell, because I’d put my friend before their rotten partner. I would want to know so I could get out of that relationship, but some people are too dependent (money, shelter, etc) and/or kids are involved, but I’ve also heard most kids say they’d rather be have divorced parents than live in a broken home, with constant fighting.
During my best-friends period (just before junior high) my supposed best friend and I were going to the same day camp. One of our days was a museum trip, for which (it was the early ‘60s) we dressed up. At the end of the day, on the way home, my sbf told me that her mother told her that the red-and-white blouse and gray skirt I was wearing don’t go together. I was devastated. I told my mother this when I got home. My mother, who had this girl’s number and was just waiting for me to wise up, said, “I would never let you go out of the house looking bad. I would tell you the truth about how you look because (wait for it) THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS DO.” She’s been gone 60 years last month and I’m so grateful for all she taught me while she was here.

“A good friend is someone you can call at 4 AM and ask them to come with a shovel and a big plastic bag.”

I lose more friends that way. Shooting the messenger has that effect.

That can also apply to your worst enemy as well. Sorry for the typo.
