Some march not to the beat of a different drum, but have their own drum

I have very few friends who are heavily “tatted” or pierced. But then again I am a very old fart. In my generation it was radical for men to wear long hair.

Most of my friends are conventional in appearance. The same could not be said about their ideas.

I have to admit that I do have a prejudice against people with odd-colored, spiked hair, tons of “ink” and enough piercings to set off the metal detector at the airport.

My very initial, almost primal reaction is negative.

The good thing about this prejudice is that I know I have it and I have gotten to the point were I can override it. A negative response doesn’t make sense logically – I don’t like someone because they look differently than me? I don’t have that same kind of response when people look differently in other ways.

It’s the prejudices I don’t know I have that I worry about.

However, you will have to admit, when was the last time you saw a bank teller with purple and orange hair and studs all over her face? It appears I am not alone in this prejudice.

I have always gravitated toward the less common. I have always respected and appreciated a strong sense of individuality and independence.

Uh, SOME of them, not all. . .“You gotta make your own kind of music, sing your own special song. . .”

I don’t mind these kinds of people, but I sure seem to attract them…

Because you have so much in common.

Yeah, they make Aunty look normal…

What is normal?

They make life a bit more interesting, weird at times, but interesting.

i didn’t realize that people thought that i was “different” until a buddy told me that he’d always considered me “quite eccentric.” i suspect that ol’ auntie doesn’t have the first clue about “weird”…

I was the family outlier. I “looked” normal and innocent, but push my button, and you got the surprise of a lifetime, you didn’t know what that was.

Hell Yeah Aunti.
