I work from home. The left corner of my desk is the on/off switch. If my phone is there, then it’s work time. If the TV remote is there, it’s non-work time.
Sounds like my spouse: he couldn’t get his CD player to play today at dinner time. It has all of 5 buttons on it and he still couldn’t figure out the right one. He did manage to turn it on, however.

When the Remote for my prior TV stopped working, in spite of New Batteries, I had to download an App to my phone to replace it.
It worked fine, but that meant I had to keep the phone in my pocket while I was watching TV.
