Oh, come on. I try to imagine nearly one hundred years ago when my grandmothers were having children. They used laundry tubs with scrub boards, and pinned clothes to clotheslines. Ever hear of Blue Monday? And that was “women’s work,” among cooking and cleaning.
Maybe by letting other things slide. Everyone has one or two areas they MUST keep up with though other things may slide. I keep the laundry and dishes done. But dusting and sweeping may need doing and slide.
I have a large collection of underwear and socks. It allows me to save them up until there’s a full load.
Also, something I learned from recycling. Why have one hamper and sort. Why not have three: for whites, colors and delicates and sort them as you go along? When one gets full, do that kind of wash.
Wash & dryer right beside the closet door, which is right across from the bathroom sink, with a door in between that has hooks for clothes that are worn but not dirty enough to wash. The easiest place to put clothes when I take them off is straight in the washer. Then the easiest place to put them when they come out of the dryer is straight back in the closet.
My laundry ends up being a monthly job because I hang so many things on hangers to dry, it takes 2-3 loads of wash to make it worth spending $2 to run a dryer. Speaking of which, it’s getting to be that time again…
My late loving wife and I always kept up with the laundry. After she died I had less but I still did it regularly. This week we had an ice storm and lost power, mine was out for 41 hours and when it came back I had lost some appliances and the washer was one of them. Not covered because…….. Still having issues with some circuits too. Waiting for an electrician to get back with me.
My dryer is finally kicking the bucket after 19 years. Every day something has kept me from going to pick out a new one. I am a bit behind now, but I am still doing things that I don’t care if they end up with rust-looking streaks on them, like colored socks or old towels. Most of my towels are old enough to drive anyway. Once I finally can get that new dryer, I will be all caught up in no time at all. Out of all the home chores, I prefer laundry. I like to turn the machines on and just read in peace for a while. The noise is relaxing to me, and putting the loads away is a break from reading. Just never, ever leave an appliance such as a washer, dryer, or dishwasher running when you are going to be gone. My daughter once left a dryer running and by the time I got home it had been on for 5 hours and smelled like it was about to catch on fire. I had told her the timer was broken and not to leave with it on. I immediately got a new one. A friend’s daughter left a dishwasher on and went out to dinner, leaving a dog in a crate home alone. The dog did survive the fire, but it took thousands of dollars in vet bills and a very long time to get the dog restored to a level of health from the burns. I just need to remember hearing about that poor dog when I think, “I will be right back, I can leave the dryer/washer/dishwasher to complete its load.” Nope. I turn them off or wait until they are done.

Just do it and get it over with. I do it as soon as I need something that needs washing first.

Keeping up with the laundry can be cheaper than keeping up with the Joneses.

Why wash clothing? It will just get dirty again.

Do it more often. Don’t wait for it to build up. Same goes for cleaning the house. Of course this is easy for me to say, my wife does that.
