the body had grown out but the melancholy still the same

Oh, I remember it well. I thought I’d have the authority to do whatever I wanted. I never thought how circumscribed my life would be.

It’s had its moments. :-)

The Sweet Bird of Youth seems to turned into a gobbling turkey. Still, “Hope is the thing with feathers …”

I don’t know about you Auntie, but I’m still having fun.

I remember as a kid that adults would tell me to act my age. I didn’t do it back then and I’m not about to start doing it now.

I don’t want to grow up, I’m a Toys R Us kid……

People like Aunty never really became an adult – just grew up into an obnoxious snot.

Yep. Now I’m broker and fatter.

Oh, Yeah!!! And I thought getting old wouldn’t be so bad…

Couldn’t wait to be an adult so I could STAY UP AS LATE AS I WANTED! Funny thing,though…..now I’m in bed at my childhood time…..

This reads like a comment about Peter Pan. Some people say that wanting to be a child forever is a grown up fantasy rather than a child’s fantasy. Unlike Peter Pan, most children look forward to growing up and play at being grown ups. When they are grown up with children – like J. M. Barry was – they look back nostalgically at their childhood and regret their lost innocence.

Never thought being an adult would be fun . . . . .

Can say as I did.

Aunty is standing like she really needs to go and is trying desperately to hold it in. Like kids do.

I refuse to growup!

I dunno. At age 12 I started working as a babysitter for 50 cents an hour and 75 cents after midnight. $3k a year. I never wanted kids because of that too much work. And seeing how the parents of mine and the kids behaved, I didn’t want that either.

Maybe being an adult isn’t always fun but finally being able to break ties with toxic parents is a plus.
