Always tell the truth doesn’t mean always talk. It means when you talk you say true things, which leaves room to be vague

Lying is an important social behavior, practiced by all social animals. We teach kids to tell the truth because they don’t yet know when and how to lie appropriately, but it is something that eventually needs to be learned, because a lot of the small lies we tell do no harm and help smooth social interactions. Do you really want your 12-year-old to tell Grandma what he honestly thinks of the sweater she knitted him when she asks? Are YOU ever going to say anything but ‘it was great, I had a wonderful time!’ when your boss asks you what you thought of the office Christmas party?

Lies, truth, and omissions: they need a balance.
