My poor dog can’t handle thunderstorms and definitely fireworks. I’m glad I got medication for her and a thundershirt. It helps her out a lot.

Fun with sparklers…stick a bunch in the ground around the yard, run around fast to light them all together, enjoy being surrounded by sparkles for a few seconds. Move on to something else. Miss a few burnt out ones when cleaning up; find them the next time you mow the lawn when they jam up the mower blades.

Yeah, sparklers. That’s the ticket. Up to 2000°. I know of at least one college kid who bundled a bunch of them together and lit them. Apparently they became a bomb. RIP.

Aw come on! The key is supervision and being careful. Fireworks can be a fun family activity. My husband and son used to shoot various ones, nothing major, but, a little more than sparklers. The first time they did it after we got our last dog, I sat with him (German shepherd) on the deck petting and soothing him, telling him it was ok, etc., while they were doing it a ways away, and, after that, he was never frightened by loud noises like that again.

Friends went to the beach to light off rockets. I declined. The rockets did not go UP. The sand didn’t anchor them well and they went sideways up and down the beach. LOL! Sometimes it is good to use discretion.

I lived for many years in a state that restricted personal fireworks. I never thought a lot about the effect that the noise can have on people and animals. Now I live in a state where they are not as regulated (although this year because of drought they are banned). The booms started last night and will continue all week.

Ah yes, the American way, to blow sh!t up just for fun, with fireworks MADE IN CHINA, on a day that actually doesn’t mean what it says it does. July 2nd is the day the Declaration of Independence was actually signed by the members of the continental congress and December 5, 1782, is the date that hostilities ceased and King George formally recognized the independence of the colonies.

No problem, Wren just sneaked away and ordered them online.

I CAN do without the idiots who not only smuggle in M80’s, but think it’s funny t o create shrapnel blowing up tin cans and glass bottles.

We’re in the middle of a drought and the grass is getting brown and crunchy. I just hope my idiot neighbors who buy out enough pyrotechnics to run a professional display will not manage to burn the whole neighborhood down with a misdirected dud!
