You learn something new every day, when I read this as a kid I just assumed he had been cheeky to his wife and suffered the consequences…

Also, in the 60’s, “Daddy” was slang, similar to “Hey man!”…..most likely this is not a son talking to his father in the second panel. Just in case anyone was wondering.
I never even thought of the Santa thing. I figured he did a sort-of “wink-wink-nudge-nudge” to his wife and she shot him up and out of the “hill”… ☺
“… laid a finger aside of (his) nose and gave with a nod”? Is it possible he was doing lines of a certain white “substance”?
