When I finally got to see the original, I was surprised by the color it was painted. I’d always imagined it to be painted black, but no, the last time I saw it (in 2018), it was still that sort of dark tan from when I’d seen it before (2012).
We have a police radio tower at the neighborhood precinct. It is a remarkably beautiful construction. I tell tourists on the Metro when they ask what it is, that it is Eifel’s prototype for the Paris Tower. I am really good at histories of buildings and structures in DC.
