We didn’t have any concerns about battery life since our torches were the only device that required them, save a small transistor radio. I was no longer using British Rail when the Walkman arrived. Keeping one’s self entertained on a long train journey is a daunting task. My trick was to get minimal sleep several days in advance so that I could kip through most of the inane chatter and arrive reasonably sane, if a bit surly.

I love train travel. Looking out the window always interested me. Loved going to the dining car and meeting people. Oh, and books. i have books. Fortunately, there’s hardly a train left where you can’t charge your phone anymore.

Very streamlined train in panel 1. It gives a real sense of motion! It looks like the sort of art Shauna would like.

Six hours on the train? To Wales? Where is Tackleford-in Iceland? England is not that big.

Is it even possible to ride over six hours and still be in Britain? If the train stops at every village and sheep crossing, yes, but do trains that stop at every village and sheep crossing have reserved seats?
