In his defense, he didn’t know about it yet. His sister was simply wearing a smelling pelt with no context.

There’s an extra page before this one in the print edition (new to the remaster), showing Lorraine and “Ellen” making their escape, but it could relate to another new page that comes later in the chapter and could thus represent something of a spoiler. So we’ll not say any more about it for the nonce, but will mention it again when appropriate.

Extra pages are a bonus.

To be honest, Mrs. C, there were far worse things you could’ve done, so I wouldn’t stress about it too much.
