Gracie: Yes. Baldo: You're reading the dictionary? Gracie: Yes. Baldo: All 500 pages? Baldo: Isn't it boring? are you for real? What word are you on? Gracie: 'Annoying.'
It’s very nice to find other people who enjoy reading the dictionary. I sleep with mine in my coffin in the hopes that I will learn even more by osmosis. It did take a while for my teddy bear to come to terms with sharing though.
I agree with bald 716. She may be reading the Oxford English Dictionary. The 1989 edition didn’t quite have a separate volume for each letter, though; it was only 20 volumes, not 26…
Out of my 484-page VOX Modern Spanish/English Dictionary, the most interesting word I came across is “navideño.” I’ll use it a sentence:
El diccionario del cual estuve hablando era un regalo navideño en Dos Mil Uno (the dictionary I was talking about was a Christmas gift in Two Thousand One).

Gracie, does it have Baldo’s picture next to the word?

My grandfather used to make me read the encyclopedia every summer. I got as far as the G’s before I gave up.
Still, I learned a lot. :)

Gracie has started with A in the dictionary book and found the word “annoying” for Baldo to be called or offended.

“Then there are instructions on how to use the dictionary at the front but no page numbers are included.”
Why don’t you count them and get back to us? Enquiring minds want to know.

The authors re-used this same joke just one year later, see: Https://www.gocomics.COM/baldo/2011/02/21
