Doutzen: This school has too many immigrants. Gracie: But Doutzen, you've only been here 4 weeks! Doutzen: Yes... Doutzen: But some of these students... Doutzen: Have been here only 3 weeks! Fola: Hi! I'm Fola!
I was ruminating on the inappropriateness of showing elementary school children going around in stereotypical dress, when I realized that the cartoonist (whoever thought up this arc) is trying to make the point that many in the U. S. are against immigrants who haven’t been here as long as they have. Maybe some of the “old” immigrants haven’t been here that long, themselves!
Obviously, newly arrived immigrants (or oldly arrived, for that matter) don’t walk around in their nation’s special events costume nor in archaic style. But the problem for a cartoonist is that it’s had to draw Dutch and Nigerian accents in word balloons. (And the national language of Nigeria is English, if you must know.) .(I was going to say they don’t walk around daily in traditional garb any more than we walk around in cowboy outfits – except that where I live, we do.)
Night-Gaunt49 – I’ll have you know that we have over a 150 nationalities living in the Netherlands, ranging from those coming from the former Dutch colonies and the Netherlands Antilles to pretty much every African and Asian country you could think of, as well as lots of Western immigrants/expats. We have plenty of diversity, and the vast majority of us are totally cool with that. And for the record: there is no way a Dutch child would show up for school wearing this kind of traditional dress (or, for that matter, wear it at any other time), unless it’s for a fancy dress party (or to amuse tourists on special occasions).
We are ALL IMMIGRANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are no indigenous people. The AI’s migrated from surounding land masses and settled but even with their scattered numbers, America was scarcely populated and unclaimed until…… well you know.

Dutch girl having trouble with too much diversity?

The school must be getting compensation for each immigrant student it takes in. That is one way to bolster the student count for federal funding.
