Transcript:
Baldo: Tia Carmen says your had a bad day. Gracie: I misspelled a work on the chalkboard in front of the whole class. Baldo: Gracie, everyone goofs up. Baldo: At least you make people laugh. Gracie: Omg! Gracie: You think people laughed?
Calm down Gracie you would know better than Baldo if anyone laughed and besides kids of your age group and Baldo would probably had spelled the word wrong too.
I’ve always been a good speller, but when I was in the eleventh grade, I misspelled a word on the spelling test. We had graded one another’s papers, and the teacher. wanting to recognize the top scorers, asked who had missed none or one. When he saw I’d missed one, he asked me what the word was, and I told him “embarrassing.” Everyone laughed.
At my church, we have a September ritual for new kindergartners, where we welcome them to school and give each one an eraser — to show that it’s ok to make mistakes. Gracie needs one of these. Being horrified at making a mistake can paralyze you into doing nothing.
The other day in a comics comment I used the word “ambience”. Someone commented “ambiance”. That’s when I learned the word had two spellings, though I’ll stick with the e-version because “ambient” has only the one form.
