The greatest training for any wannabe writer is to hone your skills by writing 30 sec. and 60 sec. commercials ( that can be edited down to a 15 sec. spot ).

    .

The ability to tell a story, concisely and entertainingly, in less than a minute, is within itself, an artform – which is why people prefer watching the Super Bowl commercials to the actual game.

    .

For any budding filmmaker or writer, I highly recommend cutting your teeth in the advertising business, before embarking on that great American Novel, or that Epic Film !

That is my wife. Drives all of us nuts with her critiques about how such and such action wouldn’t occur in real life.

Never let anyone talk at you, especially not an advertiser.

Of course that might be because the commercials are hyped before time almost as much as the game, and they have fewer dead spots than time-outs, bringing back a long incomplete pass, huddles, etc.

sometimes the commercials are better than the regularly scheduled programs they appear in.

And with the pros, you don’t even get a band concert, just a quaint form of dance.
