Why didn’t she just say, “Carmen.” So, is this how Carmen really looks? Not the caricature version we have been seeing.

In one breath we want the man to know we have a family… But then we aren’t so sure about that….

I think embarrassed means something else in Spanish.

Why would she introduce herself as Aunt Carmen? She’s obviously flattered that a handsome man noticed her. It doesn’t make sense to answer “Aunt” (Tia) Carmen, but perhaps this is simply a device for the reader who hasn’t been following every day.

Carmen has been Tia for such a long time, answers to Tia for such a long time that when asked what her name is she says “Tia Carmen.”

What does the “Tia” mean, or how is it used? I thought it was something like “grandma” but is that her first name?

Seems to me this is a repeat. At least of a theme. They use this style when she’s remembering her past.
