Apocalyptic literature began roughly 2,500 years ago. It talks about the end of the world. We’re pretty sure no one at the time of the writing took it as a serious depiction of the end of the world (even if later people were dumb enough to not recognize the literary genre and believe it). It was written in times of crisis to assure people God had not forgotten them and would intervene somehow/someway to save them.
On the other hand, since the plague that hit the Roman Empire c. 150 CE people have been claiming we really are experiencing the end of the world.
Actually, there are some foods that can kill you. For example, if you go to a sushi restaurant (or sushi bar), you might want to be wary of a menu item known as “fugu”. It has to be prepared exactly right, or it can be lethal.
As I first heard in a Bugs Bunny cartoon, but I’m nearly sure someone else had said before that, “Don’t take life too seriously. You’ll never get out of it alive.”
