this is probably first time I’ve read a Baldo I did not like. that sign she made for Cruz is not cool, she is making fun of him and his leaning disability. I believe Cruz would give his life to protect Gracie
I am SICK of people judging schools on students reading level. It’s not that they CAN’T read, it’s that they WON’T read.
Yes, I understand, some have a diagnosed learning disability. And I have worked with MANY such students who used their accommodations and were very successful in school and life. Their dedication and desire to do well always inspired me as a teacher and as an adult.
But then there are others, with or without learning disabilities, who simply refuse to try. This is THEIR decision, for one reason or other, and the schools cannot be blamed.
I am not saying that the schools should give up on them and just let them vegetate. No, we have to keep pushing them. Encouraging them. Trying to inspire them.
But in the end we all are responsible for our own decisions.
In the 50s and 60s, my husband got all the way to a sophomore in high school and couldn’t read and barely write. He quit to help his mom to provide for his siblings. The school just passed him on to the next grade withoutxa care. I donate to an Organization called Donors Choose, in his name, that fulfills the items needed by one of the groups of teachers throughout the country to help reach the diversity of students in their classrooms. So many kids were passed on with learning disabilities when I was growing up. It is great to see that there are teachers who care that each student has a chance at a great future with reading and writing at the forefront.
That is SO MEAN! You have just insulted every dyslexic individual and every kid who didnt get the help they needed and was passed on anyway. I used to praise Gracie. This is SHAMEFUL! Why not teach him to read, you selfish know it all?
My husband was Exec Director of a day Mental Health program and school for children. There are so many ways to help children who have trouble learning to read these days and same are covered by government funds so it does not cost the parents to do so.
Either his school has not bothered to refer him to a proper program or for some reason he is not attending same. If nothing else there is equipment that can read for one and tell it what was said – normally used for those who are blind, but if one cannot other learn to read it probably would be covered for them also.

She’s the type of person who because she thinks she’s smart can lord it over other people. Not a fan of her character.

Don’t people become activists to help others or a cause? Not themselves!

Grace, this, plus your general annoyance, is why you only have one friend.
