Good morning all! And good morning again Cleo lol.
Nothing like finishing up a Thanksgiving weekend with a bought of the stomach flu. It is going through my family, and no doubt will hit me before this weekend is over.
But for now, mass, and then the drive back to Ann Arbor.
It’s a lovely day here with bright sunshine. There’s a good football game on at 1. (Hopefully it will be good.) Just sort of taking it easy. Don’t feel like getting out the Christmas decorations, though I see some of my neighbors have.
Sounds good to me. I suppose JFri will arrive empty handed. Maybe johnny can join us. Hope he brings some leftovers that his mom made and sent back with him.
cleo What’s left of mine, and it ain’t much, is going to be frozen and used with the broth I froze, to make turkey noodle soup for one of these dark cold winter nights that will approach sooner than I want.
And where is our Shika with those pumpkin muffins? The cider is getting warm, where’s the ice bucket anyway? I can’t find it with all these bottles of Bookers lying around here!
Shika yes I am indeed! At least 50 percent of me, and since I was raised that way, I’ll say 75 percent. My dad was a mix of German, Scotch and maybe some Irish. But I know about Whoopie Pies. They’re a cake, round in shape about 3-5 inch diameter, used to be just chocolate. Now they make pumpkin, vanilla, peanut butter, and they are filled with icing, again, many different flavors. You would like them, of that, I am sure. And another goodie from the PA Dutch is SHOO FLY PIE! That is the bestest, bestest pie! If you like molasses.
You would like Shoo Fly Pie. And if memory serves correctly, the name came from the Amish women making the pies and setting them on the windowsills to cool, always saying “Shoo flies” as they were cooling.
I think you are thinking of Montgomery Pie. Similar in ingredients, and that did originate in the south of the US.

I save all my bones for stock. I save all bones period, lamb, fish, chicken, turkey, etc.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member almost 14 years ago
cleo I made the stock from the meat and bones on the breast. Soup is good in the winter. Oh there’s that word! Nasty word!
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 14 years ago
Oh dear. I forgot to tell you that I was going out after making my muffins. Would you like some now? They aren’t still warm, but they are delicious.
May I have some cider now, dear Dry?
I also save turkey bones, or what ever I have for stock. My freezer looks pretty grisly with all the bones in it!
cleokaya almost 14 years ago
Shika, I will have a muffin. It will make a nice post dinner repast.

I’ve heard of Shoo Fly Pie, although I thought that was from the south. It is very sweet, isn’t it? Hence, the flies, I guess.
And the pies sound delicious.
I love molasses BTW.

I’m a mixture of English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh. But I say I’m Canadian, because that’s what I am!

Anyways, I’m off to bed now. Have a good night, and

Shika! LOL! How long did it take u to come up with that? That’s funny!
As far as getting the pie names mixed up, since we’re south of you, to your friend, the origin of Shoo Fly Pie, is SOUTH!!! :-)
Shikamoo Premium Member almost 14 years ago
June. Not long. I’m an English student. words/puns are my staple diet.
How about pecan pie? That’s southern, isn’t it?
And yes, PA is south…so is Lake Ontario….lol
Next time you come up, let me know.
