I’ll come back to check before I leave today. We are have our Christmas dinner and talent night at the college. I’m singing in a chorus. We wrote our own words to the tune of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”
Just checking in. Now I am tangled up in Christmas lights! BAH HUMBUG!!! I’m starting to hate this as much as winter!
Cleo if you call 36 improving and no rain or snow, and having to wear gloves to hang those infernal lights, yeah, the weather is improving!
Shika is singing a chorus all by herself? I knew she had talent but she can do all those voices herself? I AM IMPRESSED!!
Well back outside I go, I go. See ya’ later! Have fun Shika! Tell us how it went then!
I have done enough yard work today, cutting back dead astilbe flowers, gooseneck loosestrife, hosta and raking it all up. This is normally LilG’s job, but since she went and got a real job, it has become mine. grumble
Now Dry, I will have to check with LilG on this one as you are right and I have known that, but this particular gooseneck isn’t and I will have to find out if it is a loosestrife and if so why it is okay to grow it. I am resisting becoming a gardener, but LilG is dragging me into it kicking and screaming and I certainly have gotten more versed with plant names than before I met her and can actually identify many, but she is still the master gardener and I her reluctant pupil.
I just googled it and it is gooseneck loosestrife. LilG must have a reason. It is planted on the creek side of our driveway, so it can only spread into nettles, invasive ivy, maples, ferns and other non-planted items. I planted it at least 5 years ago and it hasn’t spread though.
Dry, here is the answer on Gooseneck Loosestrife. It is invasive in the south and they even mentioned Pennsylvania, but not here. Others like Purple loosestrife and wand loosestrife are aggressive but not related to gooseneck loosestrife.
Well it is good to know cleo, otherwise I would have to turn you over to the USDA Invasive Species Police Patrol! :-D
That’s okay though, years ago, USDA used to recommend planting Multiflora Rose. Now it is on the invasive species list! LOL! It is pretty and has a lovely scent. My dad planted some at our home when we moved in, to make a hedge. Back in around 1967, it is still there, still thriving, and if you don’t watch it, still spreading!
Hey Dry, lights were designed to always tangle and irritate Easterners, here on the West Coast it is never an issue. Lights, cords, headsets are always free of tangles. It must be genetic.
Tabby how can they tell Trip is 6 months old? Usually they give a “guesstimate”. And I’m fine dear, other than those dang Christmas Lights! Curse, swear!

Oh Shika, keep up with the puns, and we’ll soon have a female Digital Frog on our hands! :-P
Dry and Dusty Premium Member almost 14 years ago
cleo Why are you growing loosestrife? If memory serves me correctly, that is considered by the USDA to be a noxious weed!
