Roofus the dog has been dead for 13 years…but I still remember how he, too, deliberated his walk. A very independent “thinker”.

Hullo, all…. and Happy Fourth of July!

    Giving it another try….

sorry that I’m just not ready to completely resume my nightly appearances…

but I do miss everybody, and I’ll be back as soon as…. gosh…. I guess as soon as I can concentrate.

We’re here, of course, to post our comments on

the July 3rd  2019 “CLEO and COMPANY”

    It’s on Sherpa

    http://www.comicssherpa.com/site/feature?uc_comic=cscwy

Farside and Plumbob…. I think one reason fireworks scare dogs is their unpredictability.

When Cleo fires a bazooka, she knows where it’s pointed, and when it will make noise.

Sudden loud noises overhead, and what look like random bits of fire falling from the sky are startling.

I’ve known big tough dogs who turned into jello at the sound of fireworks….

and one of them was a hunting dog who never minded the crack of rifles.

My teeny Skipperke, unafraid of cattle, sheep, or barking dogs 10 times her weight, would tremble, moan and lose control of her bladder…. starting two days before when kids lit illegal firecrackers outside.

If I cooped her up in the house and gave her the tranquilizers the vet suggested, it was worse.

BTW… when Scooter is deliberate about his walk, you know, of course, that it means he’s being deliberate with your walk.

He’s a friendly dog, who loves going places….

If he’s at your door, or in your yard, it’s tempting to think "Hey, there’s Scooter….

I’ll give him a nice walk while I _______ (fill in the blank: go to the drugstore, run in the park, walk up Cherry Street Hill and look at the moon…. etc…)"

But just forget it right now.

    It’s Scooter’s walk… not yours.

    Thanks, Dennis….

    and, um…. say, everybody…. I guess I let the Cliffords fool me….

I should have known, especially after typing the date into my link, that it’s only the 3rd.

If I’m not here tomorrow, could you re-use that “Happy 4th,” please?

In the last few days, I’ve seen several things I wanted to say or answer…

Let’s see…. I failed to thank Dennis and Farside for posting the Cleo link for me….

or to say “Happy Canada Day” to our Canadian crew.

Nighthawks, I wanted to tell you that on at least two different occasions, I replied to a question you’d already answered…

both times, because your comment hadn’t shown up yet, when I refreshed before posting.

That should be impossible…. online is online, in all locations and time zones….

maybe there’s some sort of server delay that I don’t understand… but it’s spooky!

At some point Mabrndt and Perkycat were talking about the (supposedly) current Ballard Street…. still stuck in time.

I wanted to add that there are several comments from me in that long queue, explaining that the strip DID go into re-runs , as J Van A promised when he retired…

Starting with April 1st…. all of that month was a re-run of 2013… including the April 30th, 2013 strip where it’s still stuck.

A moderator posted that the re-runs would start up again soon…. then he or another mod deleted his post… and some of mine, and others…

And it hasn’t resumed…. with no explanation.

    I hope it will!

Meanwhile, ChessPirate has been linking to the 2013 strips that we’d probably be seeing now, if it had continued.

And Monkey… so glad you’ve been posting here… great to see you.

Sorry, I haven’t always been here to answer you.

I think maybe you didn’t see my sad news here starting June 25th, about x_Tech.

    Hope you’ll take a look… Thanks.

That evil cat up the street is just off panel laughing at Cleo for not telling the fireworks guys that they have one more day till the fourth. She is also getting video of Cleo being scared and is going to post it so that all the other cats can see it. She also put a firework in her bazooka that will go off just a soon a Cleo pulls the trigger. It is filled with confetti.

This old “Ballard Street” ties in with today’s “Cleo”. Scooter is wary of fireworks.

We don’t need to go anywhere to watch the the fireworks. We over look the valley a few miles away, and tomorrow there will be a kazillion backyard firework shows and two professional shows from our front porch. Always such fun, and we don’t have to fight the drunk drivers to get home.

Last pup, Saucy, hated fireworks (and later in life thunder). She’d tremble and cry. Current pup, Moxie, ignores them unless they are too close. Then, she barks as if she’s protecting the house against intruders. Distant firecrackers and thunder are fine. It’s the idiots setting off the illegal stuff in the street outside the house that upsets her. Bugs me too. On Monday morning I found remains of 3-4 bottle rockets (illegal) in the back yard. I mulch all my flower and veggie beds with pine straw. By this time of year, it’s pretty dry. If something lands in one of them it could be trouble.
