Come on in, folks… we still have good seats for the concert… comped for us by the kind folks at Cleo and Company Productions.
Let’s make Cleo feel appreciated.
Anyway, I came back cos I forgot to leave a message for Dry…
and actually for anybody who wonders about the Monkey.
Maybe I should start farther back… it’s really a Ballard Street story… but many of us Cleo fans are Ballard Street fans as well…
so first, for those who don’t know…
The Monkey — Sheriff Monkeyblues, or as he spells it, MunkyBluz, was, and IS, to some of us, a major fixture in the comments and community…
He was elected the Sheriff of Ballard County by the other commenters, in 2012, right in the forum, and also started, and owns, the Tiki Bar.
He ran it even while “sheriffing”, and made me the night supervisor, which is why I’m there so much, and run it a lot.
He became a friend, online and via email…. but he had a family and a very busy day job, outside this community.
For a couple of years his appearances were sporadic, not due, as some thought, to the changes in this site, but to pressures from his outside work.
And Dry… here’s your answer….
Last year, Jerry Van A retired.
The newer Ballard Street was stuck on April 30th for months, with no new strips till it went into the current re-runs, sometime in the autumn.
So in August, the Monkey stopped by the Cleo forum, instead, to tell us he was retiring, and moving from Seattle to the Southwest, and wouldn’t have much computer access for a few months.
He named me acting Sheriff, and manager of the Tiki… not that I want to be Sheriff.
I haven’t laughed so hard in ages. And, yes, I put my coffee cup down before I read today’s C&C.
(I wouldn’t put it past our Cleo to be chewing the bubble gum before she walked on stage and forgot to put it on the door frame before she started her concert.)
Cleo was in the Killer-Kat bar and grill doing her performance. What she didn’t know is that the evil cat next door sabotaged her horn just so that the audience would love it.

Giving a Ballard Street dog a sword seems to me to be a bad idea.

Loved Louie as Cyrano… Bravo ! This looks like a production of … The Pirates of Penzance, can’t wait …

They have to be alternate historical dramatizations because Louie tends to not follow the script.

The evil cat nextdoor keeps sabotaging Cleo’s instruments! Fortunately, Cleveland audiences will applaud anything.

I was expecting one huge note when the bubble broke. This is phunny too.

Maybe I should have chewed bubblegum while I played my trumpet. (It certainly couldn’t have sounded any worse!)
