Hey, uh, John …. just grab Phil and pull him back in here. Best to just leave those crabs alone. They can smell the sea and they are NOT going to be denied. ……….. Yeah, just tell the customer that the crab ran out.

Nighthawks and Stel Bel: I adore the Twelve Days. The costumes are fabulous – probably original Cleo designs – and the drawings are elegant and funny. I think I’m glad it’s bassets milking the cows rather than the other way around. The Three French bassets all have that je ne c’est quoi, and the two turtlebassets are adorable.

I do feel it advisable to point out, however, that by the end of the twelfth day, the beloved will have received a boatload of bassets. They will be awash in bassets. This may cause them to run screaming from the premises, dripping with dog drool and vowing never to return. Which would rather complicate the message of the song. So a word of caution: It might be wise to cut down on the basset-giving for a while.

It looks like the cook has a case of the crabs.

I have a problem with 12 bassets drumming…they can never keep in time, and it just becomes a cacaphony of noise. Couple that with the 11 bassets piping, and Tigressy would have so many headaches that she would have to give up Ballard Street for a month!

Ooohhhh…

The twelve days of the most bassetty Christmas EVER….

They’re going to be escaping those skinny square frames and running, leaping and dancing all over the place.

Other Sherpa strips are going to be overrun with Bassett hounds!

Don’t be surprised if some copydog comics show up…

The other cartoonists will have so many bassets they’ll start using them in everything.

 

If you end up finding some in your neighborhood… don’t believe the ones from panel 6.

They’re lying.

Then again, don’t hassle them about telling the truth while they’re napping.

You’re supposed to let sleeping dogs lie.

one of the calling bassets is still using what looks like an old DynaTAC 8000.

Wonder where he finda a 0G signal.

 

I’d like a turtle basset for Christmas.

Easy pets… very self contained.

And the dogs in panel 8 are milking this for all they can…

What a delightful “Twelve Days of Christmas”! Nighthawks and StelBel have certainly outdone themselves! Love the costumes on all of them, especially the nine bassets dancing.

Where’d they get those crabs? Bikini?
