Crab?….All I see is a glow of street lights reflected off the cloud and a faint glimmer of something that might be a planet or star..And just what were these ancients on when they imagined shapes in the sky?
But for the most part, I agree….. one star doth not a lion make, or a fish, or an entire fable….nor even THREE stars….
But then, I’ve heard that the stories and attributes governing a particular part of the heavens helped predetermine the “creature” to be found there, rather than the other way round.
Is Carl the one who hangs wooden fish at the juncture of his walk with the public walkway? If so, he needs inspiration for new ones anyplace he may find it (much like any other artist – or like ideas for a cartoon).
Carl is not the only one with a colorful fish fetish. Good to see, he is out of the closet, up from the basement and at least into the garage. Actually Ted, Ned and George have encouraged Carl to let it come up, experience it and then let it go…it’s the letting go part, this can be troubling. Carl has twelve on the ready and many many to go, a sure sign he is not slowing down. Shirley doesn’t know it yet, but Carl has consignment space arranged at the Rock Shop and he plans to have a booth at this year’s, End of the Summer Fling Thing. Carl essentially sees himself as the Superman of Fish. He has his own song, “able to cut any size fish with just a single blade, more powerful than a shark on the move, look in the back yard, it’s a turtle, no it’s fish, no it’s Superman”. Carl loves his life, its fun.
And, Tony and Carl were the ones who just recently concluded that the stars and their wooden fish designs bore incredible similarities….too astounding to ignore!!!
Stel…. I TRIED to talk to you last night….well, early in your morning….. now I can see that you were too deep into your studies of Ballard Street ichthyology to even notice, much less look up from your books.
All work and no play makes Stel a…. well, never a dull girl….
but whatever it makes you…..
would a chance to help taste test my new key lime donuts tempt you out?
There are others out there, I was surprised to discover, (cos I thought I invented them!) but they have various heavy fillings, icings and and whipped toppings.
That’s not really my style….I prefer a lighter, breakfast sort of donut….but I need to find out what my customers actually prefer.
@Susan- a recipe for the lime ones you show would include buttermilk and lime oil in the dough (lime juice or other natural product would loose flavor upon frying or baking) and if baked, brush first w/egg wash and lots of lime zest. If fried, I’d make a powdered sugar glaze with the zest and apply after cooling.
I just ate supper and would love a bit of dessert (but instead will have my supplements and my ration of chocolate (an OZ of dark chocolate serves as dessert, but I’d try a lime donut if you have them at the Tiki. It has been years since I made any doughnuts, although I made puff pastries a few years ago for a competition (and found a local store with guava paste to fill them).
Stel sure does well at finding the history of this bunch. I see now that the fellow of whom I inquired earlier was Tony (and it would make sense that he would need to find inspiration for a bigger variety of fish since he changes them every Wednesday).
Oh SUSAN!Have you gotten that ear worm out yet? You know, “Seasons in the Sun” (we had time, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun!)No? GOOD! Because now I have it and misery loves company you know, lol
I am going to try to sleep with the fishes. I mean, I am going to scale down (but the seasons have all gone). I’m up to my gills in star gazing, with a persistent TUNA running through my mind (the BASS is okay). Oh dear COD, please send me an ANGEL FISH to help me preserve my SALMONTY. I leave you with two words to digest: PIE SEAS.
