I can imagine a dog having that reaction. But his thought process may differ, depending on whether he had any role in the toppling of the planter or not.
It’s Biff’s owner’s fault. Water collects in the plugged drain hole and freezes every night cracking the concrete. I made that mistake with a large concrete planter that did the same thing. No animal was harmed, fortunately.

Biff is just happy that he wasn’t sitting a foot and a half to his left.

Biff should now move to the back yard and pretend sleep lest he gets blamed for it.

Hmmmmm. I figured there might be a little chihuahua under the crumbled planter. And Biff just happened to be lucky.

Biff ponders his doggy mortality, having just missed getting potted.
