When you sign the one for Jerry, could you tell him I wanted to commemorate his love for pancake fly-ins? (or, uh, words to that effect?)
@Yukoneric: It’s a line from the movie The Elephant Man staring John Hurt, you know that actor that no one can remember what he looks like thanks to roles like the Elephant Man and the guy in Alien that has a face-hugger attached to his face for most of the flick.
Hm. I never knew that I missed the point when this strip first came out, and I didn’t realize it now til I got to Magasek’s comment (thanks). I guess I’ve seen so few great movies (maybe 15% of the greatest ones) that I’m practically not qualified to read comic strips!
Ever since BL first launched I guess I just assumed this strip had no particular point, and today I was wondering if it was assuming that Allen had been forced to seek emergency help from a vet.
(The town has seemed a lot smaller in recent years than it did when the strip first launched; the huge hospital, school and airport seen in the recent re-runs have rarely if never re-appeared. Which suits me fine - towns as big as Saranac Lake don’t seem to me to fit the BL premise as well as a little town does.)

We have “The Boon Fly Cafe” fly’s on everything. Also “The Hwy 29 Cafe” order on full breakfast a split between two. Just local Napa.
