I still remember a high school English teacher expounding that consensus means general opinion, and therefore putting “general” before that word was redundant.

    Ahem.

ah, annamargaret (love yer name, by the btw!) but that’s where poet license comes in - adding the (admittedly unnecessary) “general” gives the point the additional weight of aaallll the folks in B.L., making it that much funnier! :)

That’s my opinion, anyway - worth probably half what ya paid for it! (except for the part about your name - that’s gold, for sure)

We have a local consensus here, and it’s different from the general consensus.

I agree with bmonk. One thing that’s wrong with the world these days is that everyone expects others to be somewhat similar to themselves. Perhaps it’s because with the latest technology one can spend all one’s time with people just like one’s self, instead of out on the block with whoever happens to be your neighbor (greatly varied interests, capabilities, goodwill, etc.). We need to practice living with different people more, or our nation will never be able to return to getting along with other nations. So, I say, let’s hear it for paying attention to how general “consensus” really is, or not!
