    If you’re old enough, you can remember a time when fountain Coca Cola was manually mixed. A squirt or two of syrup and soda water.

    Yeah, you’re right. My Dad had a store with a soda fountain; and we would periodically have to dump in gallon jugs of Coke syrup in. The worst thing though was to change the CO2 cylinder. Last time I had a “manual” Coke was about 1968. But it only cost a nickel. Those were the days before self refills.

    Yeh… That waz me, post-Hi-School and scoopin’ ice cream with (can you BELIEVE this) a real honest to gawd thumb-lever that released the ice cream from the scoop

    When we were kids, my dad used to walk with my brother and me to the Vernor’s plant near the Detroit River. You stood in line and got flavored Vernor’s from a soda fountain. My favorite was grape, but nothing beats plain ol’ Vernor’s.

    When I was in Junior High I worked in a Pizza Hut. The soft drinks came in two containers – a cylinder of CO2 and one of syrup. One always seemed to go dry before the other.
