    Soup kitchens create tax deductions for produce that cannot be sold. Like donating the “only worn once” Prom Gown to the thrift shop and receiving a receipt for April 15.

    You can only get a tax deduction for donating things if the amount of your donations reaches a certain figure [ otherwise you can’t itemize.

    Arye, I believe that charitable contributions are deductible without having to itemize.
