Everyone has the right to own and possess a gun if they want or need one. Most of the ones that own and possess guns are not the ones that should have them.
That’s not a gun nut, that’s a criminal. Here in Florida, a small boy was shot and nearly killed by an idiot like that on New Year’s. Someone shot a bullet into the air – it landed in a small boy. They haven’t found the attempted murderer, since it could have come from miles away. People like that should be under the jail, not in it. Gun ownership requires gun responsibility.

Safer, yes, but let’s remind people that even blanks are dangerous at close range, even deadly with a point-blank headshot.
