Back in the sixties, when I was taking Organic Chem in college, our Professor noted that if we went into industry, we would have to be retrained. The only reason companies looked for college grads was to see if they could survive the harsh environment of “higher education.”
BTW, he had been a top petrochemical engineer and went into university teaching after he retired from the business world. He knew whereof he spoke.
