I remember a story from the ‘70s. A man went to court against his boss’s pronunciation of his name. The man’s name was one of those long ones with plenty of consonants somethin like Pzyrczebinskevanovich or something like that. His boss kept trying to pronounce it phonetically, but the man demanded it be pronounced “Smith” and the court agreed.
