It’s a shame young iconoclasts like Cynthia more likely than not reject progressive humanitarianism in favor of the self-centered conservatism of their parents by the time they reach their thirties.
Something Bill Maher said two Fridays ago put me in mind of Orwell’s “The Road to Wigan Pier,” to the effect that the poor could buy better food than they do, but it wouldn’t be “tasty.”
Reminded me of when I worked the “store” for homeless people one Christmas and saw the Spaghettios vanish before anyone touched the tuna fish…
