    “Animal Farm” was published in Britain on this date seventy-five years ago. It is so simply written that children can read all the words in it. It takes an adult to grasp it.

    Something Bill Maher said two Fridays ago put me in mind of Orwell’s “The Road to Wigan Pier,” to the effect that the poor could buy better food than they do, but it wouldn’t be “tasty.”

    Reminded me of when I worked the “store” for homeless people one Christmas and saw the Spaghettios vanish before anyone touched the tuna fish…
