Our understanding of “reality” is like the joke about the 3 blind men and the elephant. One feels the leg, and says “the elephant is a kind of tree”. One feels the trunk, and says “the elephant is a kind of snake”. One stands near the back of the elephant at the wrong time, and says “no, an elephant is a kind of rain shower”.

We only see a part – if we even see that part accurately.

Executive: What we’ve come up with can be reduced to two fundamental concepts. One: People aren’t wearing enough hats. Two: Matter is energy. In the universe there are many energy fields which we cannot normally perceive. Some energies have a spiritual source which act upon a person’s soul. However, this “soul” does not exist ab initio as orthodox Christianity teaches; it has to be brought into existence by a process of guided self-observation. However, this is rarely achieved owing to man’s unique ability to be distracted from spiritual matters by everyday trivia.

Other Executive: What was that about hats again?

Executive: Oh, Uh… people aren’t wearing enough.

(Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life)

Clyde is wearing a hat, Barney isn’t. Just saying.

I’ve got a smartphone and I don’t concern myself with all that stuff either, but I still enjoy using the apps that serve me in some way.

I take the “we” in panel 1 to mean homeless people.
