I’ve actually thought of doing that, but wasn’t sure it would be legal!
In mid eighties I would purchase a few hundred dollars of half dollar coins from the bank on payday.
While watching tv I would sort out the silver and return the remaining on Monday when the bank opened
I used to do that as a kid. This was back in the ’50s. Indian head pennies were in plentiful supply. I forget what we were looking for other than a 1909 S-vdb penny.
