A hairy chest is a sign of manliness & virility; it is the guy with the smooth, girlish torso who should be ashamed to take his shirt off!
My eldest son (who is, alas, non-hirsute like his mother’s side of the family) told me once “you should wax that; girls don’t like it”. I replied “I think she loves you, and is lying to save your feelings – but even if girls don’t like it, I promise you, women do!”
