Dumpster behind the liquor store is stinky tonight. I got 7 rats in 3 days. Not a record, but not bad. I miss the Teacher. The competition is less sport, since I took him(her?) out. Taught the young’uns to avoid peanut butter. Obvious trap. Had a weakness for SlimJims though. Successor likes PayDay. It’s spite, he knows that’s my favorite.

Don’t the Brits bury pheasants to tenderize them? (Or was it peasants? No, that’s the French.)

pschearer: “Don’t the Brits bury pheasants to tenderize them?”

In “Shogun,” the Englishman John Blackthorne is gifted with a pheasant (or some other game-bird) by one of his Japanese vassals. He (Blackthorne) proudly hangs if from the porch rafters to let it “cure”, much to the mortification of his household staff (who, of course, would never shame him by telling him so). After about a week (maybe more?), one of his servants cuts the rotting carcass down and disposes of it, and then offers his own neck for Blackthorne to chop as punishment.

Blackthorne didn’t kill him, of course, but it’s nice to be asked. Where are you going to find domestic help like that nowadays? The Feudal Spirit died with Jeeves…
