When I was a kid back in the 20th century, there was a particularly nasty local campaign going on. Everyone was talking about all the mudslinging.
Our elderly next-door neighbor commented “These people call this mudslinging, but they don’t know what real mudslinging is. When I was in politics before World War I, the opposition would throw real mud — and other stuff, too! Remember — we had a lot more horses back then.”
He may have discovered it, but he didn’t follow through. Either go stand on a hill (take the high road) or give your opponent an equal dose of the new facial treatment.
