If Don had been a tamarack in northern Minnesota, he would have been de-needled. When I moved here in 1998, I thought some of the pine trees had a disease that caused their needles to fall off. Then the local science teacher asked if I had ever heard of tamarack. So now, every year, we see the needles turn orange, fall off and come back in the spring.
