I used to live in the New York/Vermont/Massachusetts corner. Deer would migrate from one state to the other during the differences in hunting seasons.

In Maine, when November comes, deer hunting season, the deer seem to vanish until the day after the season is over. Then you see them again.

You know it’s blueberry season around here when the bird poop changes color.

They know it’s not hunting season because Elmer Fudd is nowhere to be seen.

The deer also like mulberries. I have 5 mulberry trees in my yard and have many times looked out to see deer munching the mulberries that lay on the ground under the trees. Most of the branches are out of their reach. The birds take care of those.

My dad always told me the Fish & Wildlife fees went to buy calendars for the fish, birds and deer. With the season marked with red X’s
