“Determination in ignoring ‘no early birds’ Notices” – that is not a good skill to cultivate. Sometimes, there are very sad reasons for a garage sale – like cleaning out the home of a loved one after they have died.

Have some compassion. Wait until the home owner says they are ready to start the sale.

The few times that I’ve held a yard sale (garage sale, tag sale, etc) I’ve had people show up so early that they had to shine their headlights on the items I was putting out. Bad form.

I have had 3 “garage” sales and every time there is this one lady that will show up the DAY BEFORE to see if we have any antique jewelry or glassware………RUDE!! The last time I actually told her that even if I did I would not sell it to her. lol she got mad and left and did not return the next day.

I won’t have a garage sale due to the rudeness I’ve seen at other ones. I’d rather donate items and write them off on my taxes.

I just put a sign on the garage door with the time the sale started, and I didn’t open the door until then.

When a neighbor down the alley was setting up for their second day I didn’t know when they were starting (no signs between the houses of course) so I walked down. They recognized me from the day before when I had introduced myself as a neighbor. Exchanged greetings, me at a polite distance (I’m disabled and people who don’t know my abilities can get nervous, so couldn’t offer to move items I couldn’t pocket or unfold tables or something else neighborly but unsuspicious wasn’t an option) until they got around to “if you’re back for anything in particular let us know and if we don’t remember selling it we’ll work our way to where it would most likely be.” As it happened it was in sight and I had decided the price was fair. Especially considering one of them insisted on carrying it for me (I did assure them it would be fine in my messenger bag, but they wanted to help and when you have kids biking in the back alley it probably is nice to have met one of the people who actually spends time in their backyard)

My list is written up on the computer, plotted via a map & printed out that morning. There is now an app for garage sales also.

I figure, if you didn’t go to the store specifically to buy that particular thing, you don’t need it and it’s a waste of money.

kattbailey – what did I just read? Seems like a good plot for a CSI show.
