When I visit, I always get up early enough to be ready for the grandchildren. I have a pile of books and suggestions for breakfast. That’s when the parents can sleep in later. Growing up, my great aunts lived in town with my family so I’d spend one night each weekend with them and assume my parents slept later.
I still get up at 5am and I am retired. Just teach them this is a good time to read or exercise. They could walk around the block or jog. Yoga. Something. Morning time can be very productive time. And the earlier they get up, the earlier they will go to bed at night, leaving more time for Mom and Dad.
My sister and I had the opposite problem. Mum took the attitude “Once you’re up, you’re up for the day. And as long as you’re awake you might as well go get your sister.” It’s no wonder my dad spent so much time at church; he was stuck in the house with three sleep-deprived women! Lynn and I would set our alarm for 3 AM, tiptoe downstairs, close the bathroom door and seal it with a rolled up bath towel, line the toilet bowl with paper, “do”, and then tiptoe back upstairs so we could sleep until 8, or so.
Those kids are old enough to quietly get their own breakfast and quietly watch TV. Anyone who wakes Mom & Dad before a certain time gets an extra chore to to.
I never had to get up at 6:30 am for school. School started at 9 am or 9:30 (alternate years) and then at 8:30 am for high school. I would get up at 8, dress and walk to school – about 15 minutes and be there on time. I did not wake easily then, as now, I was not a morning person. (Get same from Dad – we would stay up late and watch old movies when there was no school.) Us waking up early was not a problem at my house growing up.

I’m reading this at 4:15 in the AM. Not a lot of sympathy from this quarter.

Tell them to think it is Saturday. They will go back to bed.

If the sun’s out of bed, get your buns out of bed.

The timing seems strange. It’s the middle of July and this “problem” is just occurring?

Wait until they are teenagers … when getting them OUT of bed is even worse!

I would just go into the tv room and watched it with the sound down low.
