I have budget billing from my Utility, so it doesn’t matter how much gas is used, or electricity either. It all balances out over the year. My thermostat is set at 69 during the day and 60 at night during the winter. If I am still a bit chilly during the day, I DO put on a sweater. My feet get cold no matter the temp, so I will use a heating pad periodically throughout the day to warm them up.
Until about 5 or 6 years ago I was so hot all the time – and I don’t mean hot flashes, as I have always been hot (temperaturewise) since I was a kid. I would not put on a winter jacket until it was in the lower to mid 50Fs and the jacket would not be zipped until the mid 30Fs. Now when it is in the 80Fs I want to wear a sweatshirt – I did one time and found out that how hot or cold I feel has nothing to do with heatstroke – the hard way. Wait loss? Having gone through change of life? Thyroid meds? (actually when I say I am cold all the time I am told to ask the doctor if I need the latter, so it really makes no sense since I am taking them.) The combination all at almost the same time? Who knows – I just hate being so cold and being a comic of a cold old lady.

It must be pretty cold in there now, Ben doesn’t normally bother with a sweater if the house is a comfortable 70F.

Minus 5 at 6:30 this morning. Minus 6 at 7 AM. Time to fire up the wood stove.

If he wants to wear all that then he should nap outside in the snow.

I set mine for 64 degrees and it works. Keeps the bills low.

Unless you are having budget issues, I cannot see why you would want to keep your houses so cold that you need to wear a jacket indoors.
Perhaps Olivia could start baking cookies and thus heat up the house.
