The bad thing about the northern states, these days with climate change, there is a lot more colder, rainy, humid and in general, horrible weather 9 months of the year. Hence, it’s Florida for me where there are only 3 months of very high humidity but most of the year is sunny, warm and gorgeous. (And you DO acclimate to the heat when you live there. Easier than getting slammed like this out of the blue).

I was a summer-time kid. No school, no responsibilities. “I don’t want to see you until suppertime”, meant I spent a lot of time in the woods behind the house, pellet gun in-hand. There were 6 or 8 of us in the neighborhood about the same age, and with similar interests. (Of course, our “neighborhood” was about 2 square miles, with another couple of thousand acres of woodland around it.) I still prefer summer to winter. There are more things to do that I consider fun.

I grew up with the sea at the end of my street. If it got too hot you went for a dip. Not so these days here on Kittatinny Mountain.

I read somewhere that you really can’t complain about the weather 12 months a year so pick a season and complain. I chose summer. After keeping a smile on my face and seeing the good side to every winter day, now I can complain. In Michigan we have only the 2 seasons.

There are only about 4-6 weeks of good weather per year, and the rest is nature trying to kill you.

This is reminiscent of that old joke where one guy says to the other: “Hot enough for ya?” And the second guy says, “Aren’t you the guy who last winter was asking me, ‘Is it cold enough for ya?’”

Most of my life I have been hot all the time. Husband and I used to argue because I would not put on a winter jacket until is was down to the 40Fs and would not zip it close until the 20Fs as I was always warm – he was always freezing.

Then around the same time I went through menopause, lost a lot of weight and the doctor suddenly decided that my thyroid was off and gave me meds. Since then – not sure which or if all caused it – I am freezing all the time.

I always thought if one was cold, one just puts on a sweater. I found out the hard way that if one puts on a sweater when it is 85F one gets heat stroke. Our rule now is that if I do not feel cold I have to put on the air conditioner (when it is working, which it is now) until I feel cold again.
