When my youngest sister was a child my dad taught her to do magic. He would hand her, say, a walnut. She would put it in his hand and cover his hand with a towel – he would move his hand through the air over the towel and magically change it into a pecan – or he would do the same with the coins.
This sister was 12 years younger than me and 7 years younger than the sister between us – so we were old enough not to give the secret away. It all sort of backfired one day when my parents had company and one of the guests said that they liked cashews, too bad we did have any. My sister told him not to worry and ran to the kitchen, got a towel and handed my dad a walnut to change into cashew.

One of the joys of being a grandfather and one of the memories from being a grandchild.
