My wife of 34 years died 12 weeks ago and we were looking forward to the empty nest. 5 years ago her mother moved in with us with dementia and while we weren’t “waiting” for her to die we knew it is going to happen. We figured that when that hurdle was done we would be able to relax and enjoy our golden years. I am now the sole caregiver for MIL and it is hard on top of grieving for my soulmate.

Your tranquility was a part of “planned obsolescence”.

because of the cost and shortage of childcare, many grandkids are being watched by their grandparents while their parents work. at least the grandparents get a break when the grandkids go home when their parents get home; they need it for the next day of grandkid-sitting. kudos to them.

Well, when you have a nest with a rotating door.
