I don’t ask my husband if I can throw away his shirts, socks or underwear. If it’s full of holes, it’s gone.

I’ve let some clothes get ratty, but never that bad

Socks are gone the first time I spot a hole, underwear when a small hole starts growing

I did keep a favorite t-shirt once until there were large holes in both arm pits

I measure the tossability of jockey shorts by how much the elastic waistband has separated from the rest.

Nothing comfortable about underwear that’s reached that stage of disintegration. I get rid of mine when it starts looking like that, long before it actually gets that far. Same with socks with holes.

Been darning a lot of both of our socks as we have trouble finding new ones we like.

Been repairing his underpants – he can’t find new ones he likes. He wears briefs and the newer ones (even same manufacturer) rise lower on the body and do not reach his waist (or as he says – he wants the tops over his belly button, not below) so have to keep them going for him.
